Frequently Asked Questions

About the Books

Where should I start?

Pick your poison.

If you like magic, monsters, and sapphic witches who don’t take crap from anyone (human or otherwise), start with Desert Magic, Book 1 of my urban fantasy series, Witches of Wiccanburg.

If you prefer your justice served with fists and bullets instead of spells, start with one of my crime thriller series: Chaser, the first Jinx Ballou Bounty Hunter novel, or Iron Goddess, the first Shea Stevens Outlaw Biker novel.

Here’s the fun part: my thriller series are interconnected. Jinx, Shea, and Avery Byrne all show up in each other’s books, so once you’ve met one of them, you’ll keep running into the others. When you’re ready for a goth tattoo artist with a vengeance, A Conspiracy of Ravens kicks off the Avery Byrne Goth Vigilante series.

Still can’t decide? Start with Desert Magic. I’m biased, but I’m also right.

What’s the reading order?

I’m so glad you asked that I made a whole page for it: Dharmaverse Reading Order.

The short version: each book can technically stand on its own, but my characters grow and change over time, so you’ll get the most out of each series by reading it in order. And since Jinx, Shea, and Avery have a habit of crashing each other’s books, you’ll probably spot a familiar face or two along the way. Welcome to the Dharmaverse.

Will there be more Jinx, Shea, or Avery books?

All three thriller series are complete, and I’m proud of how each one ended. These days, I’m pouring that same grit and heart into Witches of Wiccanburg series. So if you miss tough queer women fighting for justice, the witches of Wiccanburg would love to meet you. Start with Desert Magic.

When is the next Witches of Wiccanburg book coming out?

Desert Fae, Book 2, is out now in ebook and paperback, and I’m working on the audiobook. Book 3, Desert Demons, is coming in 2027. I don’t have a firm date yet, because writing a book takes time, especially when you have a day job and a cat who thinks the keyboard is a bed.

The best way to hear about new releases first is to join my newsletter. As a thank-you, you’ll get a free copy of Desert Shadow, a prequel story to the Witches of Wiccanburg series. I promise not to spam you. I don’t have time for that either.

What kind of content should I expect?

My books have on-page violence, plenty of profanity, and once in a great while a short sex scene. Nothing gratuitous, but nothing sanitized either. Think Sons of Anarchy or Supernatural. If those shows are your kind of thing, you’ll feel right at home. If you prefer your heroines to say “gosh darn it” and solve problems with a strongly worded letter, my books probably aren’t for you.

Where to Buy

Are your books on Amazon and other retailers?

Yep! My ebooks and paperbacks are available on Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and pretty much every other online retailer. Your local bookstore can order them through their distributor, and you can borrow them from your library through Libby, Hoopla, and other library apps.

But if you want to make an indie author very happy, buy directly from me. More of your money goes to me instead of a billionaire’s space program, and you can save on bundles you won’t find anywhere else.

Are your books available in audiobook?

Some of them! Desert Magic and Iron Goddess are available on Audible, Spotify, and other audiobook retailers, and the Desert Fae audiobook is coming soon. To find out when new audiobooks release, join my newsletter.

Do you publish in hardcover or large print?

Not currently. I tried, but there wasn’t enough demand to keep them going. My books are available in ebook, paperback, and (for some titles) audiobook.

Ordering Books Directly From Me

Is it secure to order books from here?

Yes. Payments are processed via Shop, Stripe, or PayPal on a secure page. None of your credit card information is provided to me directly. The only information I get is what is required to fulfill your order (e.g. mailing address, email address, etc.)

If I order an ebook directly from you, how do I get it onto my e-reader device (e.g. Kindle)?

I use BookFunnel to deliver ebooks. It works with Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, Nook, and pretty much any reading app, and it gives you easy step-by-step instructions. If you ever get stuck (which rarely happens), BookFunnel’s support team will help you out.

If you read on a Kindle, simply download the EPUB file via the download page, then upload it to your Kindle library via Amazon's Send to Kindle page.

If I order a signed paperback, how long will it take to get here?

Generally, I will process your order within a few business days. Books are shipped via USPS Media Mail, so should arrive in less than a week. I only ship within the United States because international postage costs more than the book.

About Me

Is Dharma your real name?

Yes. My middle name is Dharmashanti, but that’s too many syllables for most people, so I shorten it to Dharma. It’s Sanskrit for “the divine teaching of peace.”

Where do you get your ideas?

Everywhere. Sometimes a story on the news sparks an idea. A social justice issue. An event from my past. I often joke with my friends that anything they say or do may show up in one of my novels, usually transformed enough to avoid a direct comparison. But the heart of every story comes from what I’ve lived through.

Why are so many of your characters LGBTQ+?

I’m transgender and pansexual, and many of my friends are also part of the LGBTQ+ community. Since my protagonists are queer women, it follows that a lot of the people in their lives are queer too. If that bothers you, my books aren’t for you.

What’s with the sheep in your logo?

I’m the black sheep of my family. Black sheep are awesome.

Do you write full-time?

Not yet. I still have a day job, but I write every chance I get.

I have an idea for a novel. If you write it, we can split the profits, okay?

Uh, no. Write your own damn novel.

Connecting with me

How can I get a free book and stay updated?

Join my newsletter and I’ll send you a free copy of Desert Shadow, a prequel story to the Witches of Wiccanburg series. You’ll also be the first to hear about new releases and deals. No spam. I promise.

Do you have an advance reader team?

Not officially, but if you’d love to read my books before they come out and leave an honest review, email me and I’ll add you to my list.

Are you available for interviews, podcasts, or events?

Absolutely. I love talking about books, writing, and queer representation. You can check out some of my past interviews.

That said, my inbox is flooded with AI-generated scam pitches, so I’m cautious. If you’d like to book me, please email me with:

  • The name of your podcast, publication, or event, with a link
  • What you’d like to talk about
  • The date or timeframe

I don’t pay for interviews, features, reviews, or “promotional opportunities.” If your email starts with “I came across your amazing book” and reads like it was written by an AI used car salesman, it’s going in the trash.

Do you have more questions?

If you have a question, I’d be happy to answer it. Just get in touch.
